Our newest tapestry is the Nyai Goddess Tapestry, and is a modern interpretation of the Indonesian goddess of the south sea, Nyai Roro Kidul 🌊 Many of you would have heard of her and would fear her, but this feminist goddess is Indonesia’s call to Calypso. Her legend varies from village to village, but they always center around the sea as both a force to be reckoned with, and as a powerful tool of healing. Her dwelling with men also varies— from seeking revenge against men as a result of being scorned by her lover or banished by her King father; or as consort and protector of Kings who needed her powers and advice and in return worshipped her as Goddess-Queen 🧜🏽‍♀️ In her mermaid form, she is called Nyai Blorong ✨
